چکیده
The Joint Global Ocean Flux Study of the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) is a Core Project of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP). It is planned by a SCOR/IGBP Scientific Steering Committee. In addition to funds from the JGOFS sponsors, SCOR and IGBP, support is provided for international JGOFS planning and synthesis activities by several agencies and organizations. These are gratefully acknowledged and include the Disclaimer Any opinions, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the author(s) or editors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) or any other funding bodies, including SCOR, IGBP and JRC. The JGOFS Reports are distributed free of charge to scientists involved in global change research. Acknowledgements Main funding for this workshop was provided by the JGOFS project and the EC Joint Research Centre, and additionally by all institutions of the participants and the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research. We deeply thank the EC Joint Research Centre for the generous and elegant hosting of the workshop that helped to make the meeting both, scientifically stimulating and enjoyable.

Ocean Biogeochemistry and the Global Carbon Cycle: An Introduction to the U.S. Joint Global Ocean Flux Study
Oceanography • Vol. 14 • No. 4/2001 In the early 1980s, ocean scientists were increasingly aware of the importance of biologically active elements, such as carbon, nitrogen and oxygen, in the regulation of climate and its effects on the habitability of the planet. As scientists reviewed details of the processes that control ocean carbon cycling and the links among oceanic, atmospheric and sedim...

The field data collected as part of the international Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS) provide an unprecedented view of marine biogeochemistry and the ocean carbon cycle. Following the completion of a series of regional process studies, a global CO2 survey, and a decade of sampling at two open-ocean timeseries, US JGOFS initiated in 1997 a final research phase, the Synthesis and Modeling P...
متن کاملPreface The Joint Global Ocean Flux Study
The Joint Global Ocean Flux Study relies on a variety of techniques and measurement strategies to characterize the biogeochemical state of the ocean, and to gain a better mechanistic understanding required for predictive capability. Early in the program, a list of Core Measurements was defined as the minimum set of properties and variables JGOFS needed to achieve these goals. Even at the time o...

A global assessment of carbon flux in the world ocean is one of the major undertakings of the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS). This has to be undertaken using historical in situ data of primary productivity. As required by the temporal and spatial scales involved in a global study, it can be conveniently done by combining, through appropriate models, remotely sensed information (chlorophy...
متن کاملEstimation of anthropogenic CO2 inventories in the ocean.
A significant impetus for recent ocean biogeochemical research has been to better understand the ocean's role as a sink for anthropogenic CO2. In the 1990s the global carbon survey of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) and the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS) inspired the development of several approaches for estimating anthropogenic carbon inventories in the ocean interior. Mos...
